The 15th of August, Independence Day is a most important day in the history of our country, India.
It was on this day in 1947 that India got freedom from British rule and became independent. We won freedom fight after a tough struggle and sacrifice of many freedom fighters. On 15 August, 1947 our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru raised The National Flag of India at The Red Fort, Delhi for the first time.
All the Indians irrespective of their caste, look and creed celebrate the Independence Day every year amidst great rejoicing. Government of India has declared this day as a public holiday. On Independence Day, we take a pledge to defend our freedom with all our strength and will.
The Independence Day is celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm. Leaders hold public meetings. Fly the Indian tricolor and sing the national anthem. Great enthusiasms can be seen among them.
In Delhi, the capital of India, Independence Day is celebrated with a special pomp and show. People gather in a big numbers on the parade ground in front the red fort. There is a great hustle and bustle here and there. People line up the roads all leading to the fort and eagerly wait for the arrival of the Prime Minter on Red Fort, Delhi.
The foreign ambassadors and dignitaries also participates in Independence Day celebrations. The prime minster flies our national flag. A guard of honor is given by the local police and armed forces personnel. A salute of 21 canons is fired. The military band of India plays the music of national anthem. Our Prime Minister greets the ambassadors and address speech to the nation.
Homage is paid to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to get freedom of our country. After the Prime Minister’s speech, the functions come to an end with the recital of India’s national anthem, ‘Jan Gina Man’ and the crowd starts to melt away.
The Independence Day reminds our nation of those patriots, soldiers and freedom fighters who fought and suffered to get freedom for us.
